Grade Eligibility

Grade divisions are based on the contestant’s grade level at the time of the National Pageant.  In these divisions, judges will be looking for girls who show natural beauty, a sweet personality, and who look like they are truly having fun on stage.

  • Pre-Kindergarten:  Jr. Princess

  • Kindergarten:  Jr. Princess

  • 1st Grade:   Princess

  • 2nd Grade:  Princess

From these divisions, two Overall Queens will be crowned — Miss USS Jr. Princess and Miss USS Princess — along with four Grade Level titles.

Age Determination

Contestants should compete in the grade level they will be in at the time of the National Pageant, even if their State Pageant takes place earlier in the year. Contestants must be Pre-K age by September 1 of the current competition year to compete in the Jr. Princess division. If a contestant has not reached Pre-K age by that date, she should compete in the Beautiful Baby division.

Pageant Rules

Makeup in the Princess and Jr. Princess divisions should remain natural and age appropriate. The goal is simply to enhance a contestant’s natural beauty.

Light, natural-looking stage makeup is permitted, but it should never appear overly heavy or dramatic. False eyelashes and hair extensions may be used as long as they maintain a natural, age-appropriate appearance.

There is no required walking pattern for the beauty competition. This relaxed format allows contestants to present themselves naturally on stage and also makes it a great opportunity to practice for other national pageants.

Parents and contestants are encouraged to keep hair, makeup, and styling simple and polished so contestants maintain the sweet, age-appropriate appearance of a Jr. Princess or Princess contestant.

Attire

Contestants will compete in a long formal gown during the beauty competition. The only exception is the youngest Jr. Princess division, where contestants may wear either a short or long dress that is age appropriate.  Pretty, pageant-glam dresses are allowed, however; Glitz style short dresses are not recommended.
